How many times has this happened to you?

Picture the scene; there is a very light and variable wind, lots of lovely sunshine and obvious thermal activity.

You are lined up on the old scabby runway of the disused  Ashbourne airfield.

You power up the mighty 160cc engine of your trike and roar (?) off down the runway, seemingly a few seconds later you lift off and start to gently climb away, whilst still maintaining full power.

The Mighty 160cc Valmet powered Trike

On reaching about 50 feet you now begin to descend back towards the ground still on full power.  A short few moments later you land back on the runway still on full power.

Now taxying down the scabby surface, still maintaining full power, eventually you take off again and this time climb away without further drama.

Can anyone explain what happened?

I will publish the most interesting and of course the correct answer.
